Mercedes and the Waning Moon Reveals First Trailer, Main Cast, and January 2027 Premiere

One of the next fantasy light novel adaptations has officially stepped into the spotlight. Mercedes and the Waning Moon has unveiled its first teaser trailer and key visual, while also confirming that the anime is scheduled to premiere in January 2027.

The newly released trailer offers fans their first look at the series in motion, introducing its fantasy setting, main heroine, and the atmospheric tone that defines the story. While it avoids revealing major plot developments, the preview focuses on the anime’s world, showcasing a mix of emotional moments, dungeon exploration, and action sequences that hint at the adventure awaiting viewers.

Anna Nagase Leads the Cast as Mercedes

The production also revealed the anime’s first cast member, with Anna Nagase taking on the role of Mercedes Grünewald, the young vampire noble at the center of the story.

Unlike many fantasy protagonists who begin their journeys with overwhelming power, Mercedes faces an uncertain future from the very beginning. Born into a noble vampire family but pushed aside in the line of succession, she decides to forge her own path by venturing into dangerous dungeons in search of strength, independence, and a better life for herself and her mother.

That premise has helped the original light novel stand out among recent fantasy series, blending reincarnation, dungeon exploration, and coming-of-age storytelling into a character-driven adventure.

Experienced Staff Brings the Fantasy World to Life

The adaptation is being directed by Kunihisa Sugishima, with Jun Kumagai overseeing the series composition. Character designs are handled by Nami Ueyama, while R・O・N and Shuhei Mutsuki are composing the music. Animation production has been entrusted to Teddy, which is taking on one of its most notable projects to date.

The first trailer gives an early glimpse of the studio’s approach, featuring detailed fantasy environments, magical effects, and expressive character animation that closely matches the tone of the original illustrations.

Although the preview is relatively short, it successfully introduces the world without giving away the story’s biggest surprises, leaving plenty for future trailers to reveal.

A Light Novel Ready for a Wider Audience

Originally written by Firehead, Mercedes and the Waning Moon began as a web novel before receiving a light novel release and later a manga adaptation. Over the years, it has gradually built a dedicated readership thanks to its combination of fantasy adventure, dungeon crawling, and emotional character development.

Rather than focusing solely on battles, the story places equal importance on Mercedes’ personal growth as she learns to survive in a world that has already decided her future. That balance between action and character-driven storytelling has made the series a favorite among readers looking for something beyond a traditional isekai adventure.

With the anime now set for January 2027, the franchise is preparing to introduce Mercedes’ story to an even larger audience. The first trailer offers only a brief taste of what’s to come, but it already suggests that the adaptation is aiming to capture both the emotional heart and adventurous spirit that made the original novels so popular.
