Shikiso Utsuzawa’s fantasy light novel series Because I, the True Saint, Was Banished, That Country Is Done For! is officially receiving a television anime adaptation.
The series is scheduled to begin airing sometime in 2027. A teaser visual released with the announcement features the exiled saint Eliane standing beside Prince Nigel on the roof of a castle, offering an early look at the anime’s two central characters. A more specific premiere date has not yet been revealed.
Masumi Tazawa and Taku Yashiro Lead the Cast
Masumi Tazawa will voice the protagonist Eliane, while Taku Yashiro has been cast as Nigel, the first prince of the neighboring Kingdom of Linchigham.
Eliane is the true saint blessed by a goddess and secretly responsible for protecting the Kingdom of Belkheim. Despite her important role, her fiancé, Crown Prince Claude, suddenly ends their engagement and orders her to leave the country after claiming that another woman is the genuine saint.
Rather than continuing to endure Claude’s mistreatment and unfaithfulness, Eliane accepts her exile and begins a new life outside the kingdom. During her journey, she encounters Nigel after finding him injured following a battle with monsters.
Nigel is described as a considerate and dependable prince who has earned the trust of his people. After Eliane saves him, she is invited to stay at his castle, where she gradually begins using her saintly abilities to help her new surroundings.
Tsumugi Akita Animation Lab Produces the Series
Tsukasa Sakurai is directing the adaptation at Tsumugi Akita Animation Lab, the studio behind I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability.
Naoki Tozuka is overseeing the series composition, while Naru Nishikori is designing the characters for animation. The production brings together several staff members who previously worked on I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince.

Director Tsukasa Sakurai explained that one of the story’s most appealing qualities is Eliane’s refusal to be consumed by negative emotions. The anime will focus on her efforts to move forward, rediscover herself and build a happier life with the support of the people she meets after her exile.
An Exile That Brings Down an Entire Kingdom
Although Claude dismisses Eliane as a false saint, she is actually the person whose divine barriers have protected Belkheim from dragons, demons and other supernatural threats.
Once Eliane leaves, the kingdom loses the protection it had unknowingly depended upon. While she discovers freedom, friendship and a new purpose in another country, the people responsible for driving her away begin facing the consequences of their decision.
The story combines romantic fantasy, supernatural action and the familiar “banished heroine” theme. However, its central focus is not limited to revenge. Eliane’s journey also follows her emotional recovery as she learns to live for herself after years of being controlled and undervalued.
From Web Novel to Anime
Utsuzawa originally began publishing the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website on June 16, 2020. Kodansha later released the print edition through its K Lanove Books label, with illustrations by Pukyunosuke.
Seven light novel volumes have been published in Japan, and Kodansha has confirmed that an eighth volume is currently in development. The wider franchise has surpassed 1.5 million copies in circulation.
A manga adaptation illustrated by Mokuba Matsu began on Kodansha and Pixiv’s Palcy platform in April 2021. The manga is also available in English through Kodansha USA, which describes the series as a cozy fantasy about a sheltered saint discovering friends, independence and a sense of belonging beyond the kingdom that rejected her.
More Details Expected Before the Premiere
The first announcement confirms the two lead voice actors and the principal production staff, but several details remain unknown. No trailer, theme-song artists, supporting cast members or exact broadcast season have been announced.
With production now officially underway, further updates are expected ahead of the anime’s planned 2027 premiere.
Because I, the True Saint, Was Banished, That Country Is Done For! will begin broadcasting in Japan in 2027.
