Manga creator Sūji Hanabusa has confirmed that Drawn Deep (Ayashi Michizure) has reached its conclusion. On July 5, the author announced on X that the series ended with its 13th chapter, which debuted on online platforms the same day. To celebrate the milestone, Hanabusa also shared a special illustration with fans.
First serialized in Kodansha’s digital Honey Milk magazine in May 2025, Drawn Deep quickly attracted attention for its blend of supernatural mystery and emotional storytelling. The manga’s second collected volume was released in Japan on March 12, marking one of the final milestones before the series wrapped up.
The story follows Yukiya, a teenager who struggles to adapt after relocating to his mother’s quiet seaside hometown. One day, he hears unsettling cries coming from a hidden cove near the shore. Despite rumors among the locals about a dangerous creature lurking in the area, Yukiya decides to investigate on his own.
There, he encounters a mysterious young man who appears to possess extraordinary abilities. Unable to communicate through words, the stranger can alter his form and even transform into different animals. As the enigmatic figure takes on the appearance of a boy around Yukiya’s age, the two gradually develop a close bond.
However, their growing relationship is overshadowed by secrets buried beneath the peaceful coastal setting. What begins as an unexpected meeting slowly unfolds into a story filled with loneliness, hidden truths, and supernatural elements.
International readers will still have the opportunity to discover the manga, as Kodansha USA is publishing Drawn Deep in English. Although the series has concluded after just 13 chapters, it leaves behind a compact fantasy tale that resonated with readers through its unique atmosphere and emotional core.
