Ukami’s supernatural comedy manga Gabriel DropOut is approaching the end of its long-running serialization.
The September 2026 issue of Comic Dengeki Daioh G announced that the manga will conclude with its next chapter. The series began publication in December 2013, meaning Gabriel and her friends will bring their chaotic life on Earth to an end after nearly 13 years.
An exact publication date for the final chapter was not separately announced. Since the ending is scheduled for the magazine’s next issue, further information about the conclusion and the manga’s final collected volume is expected to follow shortly.
Gabriel’s Time on Earth Is Almost Over
Gabriel DropOut follows Gabriel White Tenma, an exceptionally talented angel sent to Earth after graduating from an academy in Heaven.
Gabriel is initially expected to study humanity and guide people toward better lives. Her mission quickly falls apart when she discovers online games and becomes an unmotivated shut-in who would rather remain at home than perform her duties as an angel.
Her new lifestyle places her alongside three equally unconventional classmates: the responsible demon Vignette April Tsukinose, the self-proclaimed future ruler of Hell Satanichia McDowell Kurumizawa and the outwardly graceful but highly mischievous angel Raphiel Ainsworth Shiraha.
Much of the manga’s comedy comes from reversing the expected roles of angels and demons. Gabriel is selfish and lazy despite her heavenly background, while Vignette frequently behaves like the most dependable and morally responsible member of the group.
The Manga Has Entered Its Graduation Storyline
Kadokawa has currently released 16 collected volumes of the series in Japan. Volume 16 was published on September 27, 2025, while the official Kadocomi listing reached Chapter 136 in July 2026.
The recent volumes have gradually moved the characters toward the end of high school.
Yen Press’ description for Volume 15 focuses on Vignette’s concerns about the group eventually separating, as some of her friends begin making plans to leave Earth. Volume 16 continues that progression by placing Gabriel and her classmates in career counseling and asking them to seriously consider their futures after graduation.
That direction suggests the ending will address more than Gabriel’s gaming addiction and everyday arguments with her friends. The series must now confront whether the angels and demons will remain together after school, return to their original worlds or choose entirely different futures.
Details about the final chapter’s events have not been revealed.
Yen Press Publishes the Manga in English
Yen Press holds the English-language license for Gabriel DropOut and currently lists 16 volumes in its catalog. The publisher categorizes the title as a fantasy, comedy and slice-of-life manga.
The first English volume introduced Gabriel as a formerly disciplined angel whose academic performance and heavenly responsibilities deteriorated after she became obsessed with video games.
Yen Press has not yet announced an English release date for any future final volume. Its publication schedule generally follows the Japanese collected editions, meaning international readers will need to wait until Kadokawa formally reveals how the remaining chapters will be compiled.
The Series Received a Doga Kobo Anime in 2017
The manga inspired a television anime adaptation that aired in Japan from January to March 2017.
Doga Kobo produced the 12-episode series under the direction of Masahiko Ohta. Takashi Aoshima handled series composition, Katsuhiro Kumagai designed the characters and Yasuhiro Misawa composed the music.

Two additional original video animation episodes were released with the Japanese home-video editions.
The manga-ending announcement did not include confirmation of a second anime season or another new animation project.
A Spin-Off Previously Focused on Tapris
The franchise also received the spin-off manga Tapris SugarStep.
Written by Ukami and illustrated by Bafako, the series focused on the younger angel Tapris Sugarbell Chisaki and her experiences after becoming involved with Gabriel and the other characters. The spin-off was also published through Comic Dengeki Daioh G and concluded with three collected volumes.
Tapris appeared in the television anime with Inori Minase providing her Japanese voice.
Final Volume Details Remain Unannounced
Kadokawa has not yet confirmed the title, cover, release date or complete contents of the manga’s concluding collected volume.
It is also unclear whether the final chapter will receive additional pages, a color opening or another special feature commemorating the end of the series. Those details will likely become clearer when Comic Dengeki Daioh G formally presents its next issue.
After almost 13 years of gaming sessions, failed demonic schemes and unlikely friendships, Gabriel DropOut will conclude with its next chapter.
The final installment will determine whether Gabriel can finally prepare for life after high school—or whether Heaven’s former model student intends to remain a hopeless gamer until the very end.
