Crunchyroll has confirmed that the upcoming fantasy anime Romelia War Chronicle will stream on its platform when the television series premieres later in 2026.
The adaptation is based on Ryo Ariyama’s fantasy novel series, which follows a noblewoman attempting to rebuild a kingdom after the supposed end of a devastating war. A specific premiere date has not yet been announced, but the production is planned as a two-cour broadcast.
Victory Over the Demon King Is Only the Beginning
The story centers on Romelia von Graham, a count’s daughter who accompanies her fiancé, Prince Henri, on a long campaign against Demon King Zelgis.
Romelia lacks the overwhelming magical abilities and physical strength normally associated with fantasy heroes. Instead, she supports the expedition through information gathering, negotiation, financial management and logistical planning. Her contributions help the group complete its mission, but they do not earn her the recognition she expects.
After Zelgis is defeated, Henri abruptly ends their engagement and declares that Romelia is no longer useful. The prince and his companions return home as celebrated heroes, while Romelia is dismissed and sent away despite the role she played in their victory.
For Romelia, however, the Demon King’s defeat has not brought true peace.
Years of conflict have left her homeland damaged, civilians remain trapped or displaced, and surviving demonic forces continue to threaten the kingdom. Rather than seeking revenge against Henri, Romelia turns her attention toward the people still suffering from the war’s consequences.
She decides to use the practical knowledge gained during the campaign to build a military force of her own. Her new struggle involves more than battlefield victories: she must restore the economy, secure supplies, gather intelligence, recruit soldiers and survive the political conspiracies created by a kingdom attempting to recover from war.
Yuna Nemoto Leads the Voice Cast
Yuna Nemoto stars as Romelia von Graham, the determined noblewoman at the center of the story.
Romelia is joined by Al and Ray, two young knights who support her efforts to establish a new army. Al is voiced by Jin Ogasawara, while Tomohiro Ono plays Ray.

Henri’s presence means the anime will not immediately leave Romelia’s former companions behind. Their decisions following the Demon King’s defeat are expected to contrast with Romelia’s growing awareness that the kingdom’s deeper problems remain unresolved.
Studio Atra Handles the Animation
The television adaptation is being produced by Atra, with Hiroshi Shirai serving as director.
Takahiro Hirata is working as assistant director, while Aya Satsuki is responsible for both series composition and scripts. Yoshiko Saito and Yuta Otaka are adapting the characters for animation.

KOHTA YAMAMOTO’s involvement gives the production an experienced composer for its military-fantasy setting. The story’s mixture of large-scale warfare, political tension and quieter rebuilding efforts should require music capable of supporting both dramatic combat and strategic scenes.
The Anime Will Run for Two Cours
The production previously confirmed that Romelia War Chronicle will be presented across two cours beginning in 2026.
That extended format gives the adaptation more room to establish Romelia’s fall from the hero’s party, her return home and the gradual creation of her military organization. It should also allow the series to explore the economic and political consequences of the war rather than immediately reducing the story to another confrontation with monsters.
An exact episode count has not been disclosed. The production has also not confirmed the precise season in which the first cour will begin.
A Different Take on the Banished-Heroine Formula
At first glance, Romelia War Chronicle contains several familiar fantasy elements: a broken engagement, an underestimated noblewoman and a former companion who fails to appreciate her value.
Its central conflict, however, is not built entirely around proving Henri wrong.
Romelia understands that defeating one powerful enemy does not repair destroyed communities or restore the lives lost during years of conflict. Her greatest abilities are not hidden magic or an unbeatable weapon, but organization, negotiation and the willingness to confront problems that the celebrated heroes would rather ignore.
The series therefore approaches its fantasy world from a postwar perspective. Its heroine must consider how armies are funded, how supplies reach soldiers and how ordinary people survive after the heroes have completed their legendary quest.
That emphasis on leadership and reconstruction gives the anime an opportunity to distinguish itself from more conventional stories about characters expelled from adventuring parties.
From Web Novel to International Release
Ariyama originally began publishing the story through the Shōsetsuka ni Narō platform in August 2019. Shogakukan later released a print edition under its Gagaga Books imprint, with Kodama providing the original character designs and Ryo Kamito contributing illustrations to later material.
Kamito also illustrates the manga adaptation. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga in English under the full title Romelia War Chronicle: The Count’s Daughter Rallies an Army in the Wake of Mankind’s Victory. The first English volume was released on January 13, 2026.
The franchise had surpassed 550,000 copies in circulation by the time the anime’s principal cast and staff were announced.
More Release Details Are Still to Come
Crunchyroll’s announcement confirms that international audiences will be able to follow Romelia’s campaign when the anime begins, but several major details remain unknown.
The production has not yet announced an exact premiere date, theme-song performers or a complete episode total. Further trailers and additional cast announcements are also expected before the broadcast begins.
Romelia War Chronicle will premiere in Japan in 2026 and stream on Crunchyroll. The anime is being produced by Atra as a two-cour television series.
